Floyd’s Story
Floyd The Lion™ is a Persian cat with a lion heart. He is a master of the art of living and is always eager to explore his Colorado, U.S. surroundings, mainly in his own home or neighborhood. Floyd was born on September 23, 2013. We found him through a friend of the family whose cats had kittens, and we knew nothing of Persian cats at the time. Floyd was one of the few kittens left in the litter. He had gone home with another family and was soon returned. The first time we met, Floyd showed off playing and then fell asleep on my shoe. It was love at first sight!
During his first year of kittenhood, Floyd had a few health scares — a constant runny nose, a brush with death after eating lilies (which are toxic to cats), and another one after he launched himself off of our 25-foot+ balcony to concrete, cracking his two front canines, which led to double root canals. We learned through an MRI result that Floyd was born with only one sinus cavity, which causes his right nostril to run chronically and gives him extra charm.
We also learned through Floyd that cats do, in fact, have nine lives. Cats have a “righting reflex” — the ability to twist around quickly mid-air if they fall from a high place so that they always land on their feet. Turns out, this supernatural ability to walk away from disaster fairly unscathed is in Floyd’s DNA.
An adventure cat, who, as he gets older, prefers more close-to-home travels, Floyd has been as far as Moab, Utah and often visits the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he has family. Floyd travels in a cat carrier for road trips, is micro-chipped, has a collar with an ID tag, and has pet insurance — which we learned the hard way after his first year of life, is a must-have for pet owners! Floyd wears a cat harness for safety when he's out exploring and walks on a leash.
Floyd is a fun-loving, sweet, feisty, fluffy, majestic creature. He is super friendly and loves most animals and people he meets. He’s the type of guy who will greet you with his tail up, a back arch, and a head bump and will then serenade you with purrs. He is the best, most loyal, and loving pal we could ask for. It’s been fun to share photos and videos of our special guy throughout the years, and we’ve also enjoyed making a semi-annual calendar and a brand of products in Floyd’s name.
Floyd The Lion’s signature products are created by independent artists, made with a whole lot of heart, thoughtfully sourced, and stamped with Floyd's paw of approval. A portion of all proceeds from Floyd The Lion’s shop benefits animals in need. See the Donations Page to learn more.
Floyd’s community of animal lovers spans 52+ countries & we love that our fluffy guy brings smiles to so many!
Thank you for being a part of Floyd’s lion pride,
Susie, Cami, & Floyd
